In my second large scale painting for the show, I portrayed the Astronomer and the choice he is presented with. Once again I worked in a repetition of 3s. In keeping with the other work, I made sure the lines of action were cleanly laid out. I don't tend to keep a lot of structure in my work but felt like the subject matter here called for a little more planning. Once again I worked charcoal on canvas, fixed, gelled, washed and then drybrushed. It is a lengthy technique but seems to serve me well. It also does a number on my finger tips as I work in the charcoal with my fingers. By the end my fingers are pretty raw, charcoal on the canvas texture, it works a little like sandpaper.
