Digital Goblin Illustration

I am steadily plugging away at several projects all at once, one of which is a game I’m designing.  I finally completed this illustration of a goblin that has been hanging around in my work folder for a pretty long while.  It was interesting as I started it a while ago when I was first learning digital and things came together for it in about 8-10 hours.  I know that seems like a lot and I’m hoping that will get quicker as I start learning more techniques and what works and doesn’t.  In any case, I like the way this one turned out. I loved working on the different materials like the wrap he has around his neck, the pants and the scale armor which, surprisingly went very fast.

I’ve always been fascinated by goblins as there is nothing much written about them so in my mind they have a very rich and ancient culture.  There is something about constructing a history and culture for a fantasy race that is very appealing to me.  I find a lot of enjoyment in the very little things clothing styles, mannerisms, festivals and holidays, history and the like.  I feel like if I can write up a nuanced description of them as a people, I can add elements to their clothing and the like to make them feel more authentic.
